Advocacy Children

Statutory and specialist advocacy services for Children & Young People

We support children, and young people locally.

Ensuring that their rights and needs are understood and respected in decisions that affect their lives.

Children’s Advocacy ensures that children and young people are listened to and involved in decisions that affect their lives. Our Advocates are independent from social services, schools, and other agencies. They work only for the young person.

Children’s Advocacy is available for:

  • Children and young people who are in care
  • Children and young people who are leaving or have left care.
  • Children and young people subject to Child Protection plans
  • Children and young people involved in safeguarding processes  (Child Protection or Child in Need plans)
  • Children or young people who want to make a complaint about Children’s Social Care

Our Children and Young People Advocates have continued to be a compassionate presence alongside young people who are navigating the complexities of care, safeguarding and support services.

The voices of young people need to be heard when decisions are being made that affect their lives, and our advocates are there to ensure that this happens for every child that we are with.

What we don’t do at Children’s Advocacy

Children’s Advocates do not make decisions for the child or young person, or tell them what to say. Advocacy is child-led, the Advocate acts on the young person’s instructions, unless doing so would put them at risk of harm.

A Children’s Advocate will:

Listen

Listen and help them to work out what they want to say

Explain
Explain their rights and the processes they are involved in in an age appropriate way
Support
Support them to speak up in meetings, reviews or case conferences
Be a Voice

Speak on their behalf if they want the Advocate to do so

Advice
Help them make a complaint or challenge a decision
Decisions
Ensure that their views are properly recorded and considered in decision-making
