Role Purpose: The Advocate will provide high-quality advocacy support to vulnerable adults who require specialist advocacy services. Working closely with individuals facing complex challenges, they will ensure people’s voices are heard, their rights are upheld and they are supported to make informed decisions.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver statutory advocacy under the Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Care Act, DoLS, and NHS Complaints procedures.
  • Support people to understand their rights, express their views, and participate in decision-making.
  • Represent the wishes and perspectives of individuals when they cannot advocate for themselves.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with adults across a wide range of settings (e.g., hospitals, care homes, community).
  • Provide information in clear and accessible ways, adapting to people’s communication needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records, respecting confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals, while always prioritising the voice and rights of the person.
  • Promote the service and contribute to developing a strong, positive advocacy presence in the community.

Experience

  • Supporting Vulnerable People – proven experience working directly with individuals such as people with mental health needs, learning disabilities, or other complex circumstances, with a focus on empowerment and respect.
  • Protecting Trust & Confidentiality – experience of working with sensitive information responsibly and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Advocacy & Rights-Based Practice – knowledge or hands-on experience of delivering advocacy within the frameworks of the Care Act 2014, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA), and Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA).
  • Practical Application of Legislation – ability to translate legal frameworks into real-world advocacy that makes a positive difference to people’s lives.

Special Requirements:

  • Driver with a car (If you have a disability which does not enable you to drive a car, Empowerment will discuss reasonable alternative arrangements for travel).
  • Your car insurance cover will need to include business use as you will be using your car in the course of carrying out this role.
  • Flexibility – Willingness to travel across the Lancashire area as part of delivering the role.
