We at Empowerment are delighted that we have been chosen by Blackpool Council to host the Blackpool Time to Change Hub.  We will be building upon the fantastic work which has taken place in recent years. For those of you who aren’t aware, Time to Change is the national movement of people committed to changing how people think and act about mental health.  The aims of this national campaign are to:

  • Improve public attitudes and behaviour towards people with mental health problems;
  • Reduce the amount of discrimination that people with mental health problems report in their personal relationships, their social lives and at work;
  • Ensure people with mental health problems can take action to challenge stigma and discrimination in their communities, in workplaces, in schools and online;
  • Create a sustainable campaign that will continue long into the future

More information can be found here: Time to Change

Empowerment has really exciting plans for the Blackpool Time to Change Hubso that over the next year we will:

Support the development of a local Champions Campaign Group and individual Champions;

Support partners to complete the Time to Change employers pledge;

Administer small grants for the delivery of social contact and community campaigning

Promote Time to Change messages across Blackpool in a variety of ways (e.g. through social media) and undertake campaign activity focusing on social contacts for key dates – World Mental Health Day, Time to Talk Day etc.

We are especially interested in involving people with lived experience of mental illness, engaging with grassroots organisations and working to address the particular issues men are facing in Blackpool about talking about their mental health.

If you are an existing Blackpool Time to Change Championwe would love to hear from you or if you are interested in getting involved with this amazing movement of people, then please get in contact with us too.
