Our appeal to the Blackpool Community for Elliot’s Place

Empowerment Charity are currently fundraising to create a space that will help young men in our community fight against Mental Health and Suicide.  We have now secured the building but are calling on a local kind hearted contractor to supply us with the materials to get the space ready for the installation.

Together with the friends and family of Elliot Taylor, we have been raising money to build a support space, specifically for young men, who are struggling with their mental health. The space created at the Empowerment Sanctuary garden will be called ‘Elliot’s Place’ in memory of Elliot Taylor, who tragically took his own life after battling with mental health and having nowhere to turn for immediate help.

This year has seen a wide variety of fundraising for this project from:

  • ‘One Love’ Postcards designed by Abbie Franks all profits going to Elliot’s Place

  • A one off unique ‘Empower’ Candle designed and created by Harriet Taylor of J.C.Tweddle creations (Elliot’s Cousin)

  • 3 Peaks Challenge completed in 24hrs by Connor Hardwick and other good friends of Elliot

There has been various kind donations from the general community doing one off marathon miles or just ‘donating now’ via the website. There has also been a £5,000 grant secured from the B&Q foundation Trust as well as a forthcoming group Hike over four days arranged by Joe Darnell who helped kick start fundraising in October last year raising a whopping £4,000, smashing their initial £2,000 target. With the money secured through all of this fundraising, the steering group have now agreed on the building which will be a 40ft container conversion from S Jones Containers.

We are now appealing to our community in Blackpool to help us get the space ready for the installation in September.

As you can see from the photo our ‘sanctuary’ space is in need of some much needed TLC and anyone that can donate the time and materials to get the ground suitable for the building would be contributing to Elliot’s Place Project and helping those young men in our community that need our help.

We also need decking and some soft furnishings.
